Tuesday tweeting myself: Yeah you can cheat on the eats…but only rarely!
If you followed my trip to Montreal on Twitter, you know that I had a monumental dining experience at Au Pied de Couchon, a crazy great spot. The food was amazingly good and unusual but not particularly healthy, at least as related to my normal diet. As I reflected in one of my tweets,
@offalchris Poutine was delicious! Do people make this in the US? If not they should!
PS y’all this is NOT healthy stuff I’m eating tonight so it is a Big and RARE treat for me… We can cheat sometimes.
My dad told me about some research he saw showing that when people deprive themselves of special treats, they crave them more and more. So I allow myself the occasional over-the-top meal or a special dessert now and then. It gives me a taste break AND a mental break from the rigors of training. Plus it’s just fun!
As I learn more and more about food, I hope to continue to find more and more ways to create great-tasting food that is also healthy. (That’s why I co-founded AthleticFoodie) Walk into anything but a specialty restaurant, and you know how hard it can be to get a truly healthy meal that is more than a bad compromise.
So what did I do when I got back to Austin? Had a good and healthy snack that is reflective of probably 98 percent of my diet:
Eating some whole wheat/grain cereal with flax-seed, berries, almond milk. Going for tons of veggies and leafy greens tonight
For dinner, I went to Casa de Luz. It’s quite a different atmosphere from where I had eaten the night before. The hearty vegan fare, however, was also wonderful. Here’s what @thinkbirdies said about it in response to my tweet:
@G_WeberGale I love Casa De Luz! I’ve literally been eating there since day 1 of that place. How often do you go dine there??
